Die bedreiging vir die kerk lê vandag meer as ooit voorheen daarin dat misleiding en dwaling al sterker binne eie geledere voorkom.  Die aanslae van kultes, alhoewel nog steeds 'n realiteit, is ooglopend en duidelik.  Wat binne die kerk gebeur het baie subtiel ingesluip en word al sterker en duideliker opgelet.

 

Die hartseer en gevaar is dat bitter min lidmate, óf nie die Skrifkennis het nie, óf doodeenvoudig hulle nie juis bekommer nie, want hulle wil nie betrokke raak nie.

 

Van hierdie gevaarlike en misleidende tendense vind ons al meer in gevestig-de denominasies wat reeds vir jare lank bestaan.  Hierdie moderne tendense sluit dinge in soos die volgende:-

Intussen, aangevuur deur die onlangse vrystelling van 'n DVD, is daar binne die NG kerk baie kommer oor teologiese dwaling wat aan van die teologiese fakulteite by universiteite ingesluip het.  Juis as gevolg hiervan is die Evangeliese Inisiatief gebore.  Die onlangse gesprekke op RSG se Oopgesprek-program en ander verwikkelinge wat op die webwerf van die teologiese fakulteit van die Universiteit Pretoria aangestref word, openbaar baie sterk kultariese eienskappe wat by hierdie fakulteit teenwoordig is.

The present threat for the church lies more within than without.  The cultic threat which has always come from outside, though still a reality, is more noticable than the deception that has crept in so subtly and now not so subtly any longer.

 

What is of specific concern is that few Christians have the knowledge of Scripture to really discern the spirits, or they just do not care.

Recently, and as a result of the release of a DVD, members of the DRC (NGK) have taken note of misleading and heretical teachings at theological faculties at some universities.  Out of this concern a movement, the Evangelical Initiative, was recently born.  Recent discussion on the Afrikaans radio programme, Oopgesprek (Open Discussion) and other developements that are found on the web site of the theological faculty of the University of Pretoria, this faculty displays strong cultic tendencies.
